PREFACE

Several   years   ago,   I   was   led   to   Isaiah   60   as   I   searched   for   comfort   and   words   of encouragement   to   soothe   my   afflicted   soul   on   a   ride   back   to   Detroit,   Michigan,   on a   Greyhound   bus   from   yet   another   battleground   in   the   Eastern   shores   of   Lake Michigan,    where    I    had    been    spiritually    wounded,    defeated,    and    saddled    with issues    that    were    clearly    beyond    me    at    the    time.    I    was    in    tears    and    almost despondent   as   I   opened   my   Bible   onto   the   page   that   said   to   me:   “Arise,   shine;   for thy   light   has   come,   and   the   glory   of   the   Lord   is   risen   upon   thee.   For,   behold,   the darkness   shall   cover   the   earth,   and   gross   darkness   the   people:   but   the   Lord   shall arise   upon   thee.”   I   could   not   comprehend   what   this   meant   as   my   situation   and state   of   mind   at   that   time   did   not   match   the   command   that   I   had   just   read   from that   scripture.   However,   for   some   reasons   that   I   could   not   readily   explain,   I   was compelled   to   read   on   to   the   end.   And   then   I   saw:   “I   the   Lord   will   hasten   it   in   his time.”   I   closed   the   Bible   almost   certain   that   it   may   not   have   been   for   me   after   all, but   the   last   verse   kept   coming   back   to   me   over   the   years   until   the   light   of   God came   to   reveal   that   the   purpose   for   my   existence   on   earth   will   remain   on   hold until    I    have    the    requisite    wisdom,    knowledge,    understanding,    and    of    course, temperament    to    undertake    the    steps    and    duty    posts    that    will    spiritually    and physically   prepare   me   for   that   place   of   destiny,   the   divine   location   as   appointed by God before I was formed in my mother’s womb. I   look   back   today   and   realize   it   was   impossible   for   me   to   rise   and   shine   because there   were   paths   that   were   not   yet   treaded.   In   my   journey   in   life,   there   were designated   routes,   stations,   and   substations   that   I   needed   to   stop   to   get   my bearing.   There   were   even   dead-ends   that   I   needed,   to   make   a   detour   as   led   by   the Spirit   of   God.   Needless   to   say,   there   were   some   holdups   and   traffic   jams   at   some points   along   the   way   that   needed   urgent   divine   intervention   to   set   me   back   on course.   Today,   I   am   more   determined   than   ever   to   make   it   to   the   finishing   line,   so help me God! ... The Lord will hasten it in His time - Isaiah 60:22
